Haweater Weekend has now been a tradition for 57 years, and our past and present Lions couldn鈥檛 be prouder of what it has become. When people see everything that happens over the course of this weekend, it鈥檚 hard to believe that it is organized by a club of just 17 members.

Planning for Haweater Weekend really begins as soon as the previous one ends. Since September of last year, countless hours have gone into organizing every detail to make this weekend another success. Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our families, friends, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners who step forward year after year to help make sure everything runs smoothly. To each and every one of you, thank you.

We are also fortunate to work alongside many other organizations throughout the year. Your support and willingness to work together make a tremendous difference, and we truly appreciate everything you do.

This year鈥檚 Haweater Weekend is packed with activities for the whole family. One exciting addition is our brand new car show, taking place Saturday in the arena parking lot. We鈥檙e also bringing back many of the crowd favourites, including the ever-popular Cardboard Boat Race, the softball tournament, and two dances on Saturday night.

Families will once again find plenty to enjoy at Low Island, where we鈥檒l have inflatable bouncers, giant slides, paddle boats, and activities for children throughout the weekend. There truly is something for everyone.

We鈥檙e also excited to welcome back the second annual SCB Haweater Open bass tournament, which this year has moved closer to the main docks in Little Current, bringing even more excitement and activity to our waterfront.

As Lions, our motto is 鈥淲e Serve,鈥 and that commitment extends far beyond this weekend. Thanks to the tremendous support of our community through our Catch the Ace lottery, we were able to make donations this past year to a number of worthwhile organizations and initiatives, including Manitoulin Health Centre, Victim Services, Manitoulin Secondary School bursaries, and many other local causes. Supporting our community is at the heart of everything we do.

Whether you鈥檙e a child experiencing Haweater Weekend for the first time, parents making memories with your family, or grandparents continuing a tradition that spans generations, we hope you鈥檒l find something to enjoy. Our downtown will be bustling with activity, featuring many returning vendors as well as several new ones, making this year鈥檚 celebration bigger and better than ever.

On behalf of the Little Current Lions Club, I want to once again thank all of our volunteers, fellow Lions, sponsors, and everyone who has contributed their time and effort. Your dedication is what makes weekends like this possible.

As you celebrate, please remember to enjoy yourselves responsibly. If you鈥檝e been drinking, don鈥檛 drive. There are taxis available, and friends and family are always willing to help you get home safely.

Most of all, thank you for being here. Have a wonderful Haweater Weekend, and enjoy your Fiest-Haw!
