Providence Bay
Alexia Hannigan
Alexia here with your farewell July and hello August fly! Already? You bet!
The Month of July festivities and fun came and went like a hummingbird to a nectar feeder. And just like that, we’re ushering away July and welcoming in August with a parade, live music, fireworks, classic cars, family fun, local vendors and one of the Island’s biggest celebrations: Haweater Weekend. Everyone is getting their game faces on for the much-anticipated 57th annual Fiest-Haw Haweater Weekend Festival (Thursday, July 30 to Sunday, August 2). We are all very excited to experience the 2026 Wiikwemkoong Arts and Music Festival (WAMF) on July 31 featuring Project Runway Rez, Odawa Mnis Master Chef Showdown and the regalia and performances of the smoke and woodland dance showcase plus live awesome performances by hometown favourite Crystal Shawanda, Aysanabee and an unforgettable headline performance by Stella Standing Bear! All leading up to the 2026 Annual Cultural Festival and Competition Powwow at Thunderbird Park in Wiikwemkoong August 1 to August 3. And everyone is reeling about The Huron Bass Tour at the Haweater Open II. Last but, not least we are in the final countdown for the much-anticipated Providence Bay Fair! Hooray! This upcoming long weekend is one of the busiest for us Islanders-we’re all chomping at the bit for the Fun and Festivities to follow! Of course, I’m going to be sporting my awesome Haweater hat, painted by the very talented Sheila McDermid! I am also very excited because my brother is visiting again for one week during the second last week of August and he will be here to enjoy his very first Providence Bay Fair!
