GORE BAY—For the past 32 years, a significant number of fibre artists have visited the Town of Gore Bay to enjoy not only learning and expanding their knowledge of lace making, but to take in all that the town and Manitoulin Island has to offer.

“We enjoy taking part in the lace camp every year,” said Jody Pilon, lead organizer of this year’s event. “For most of the ladies here this is their vacation. And one of the reasons we hold the camp at this time of the year is that the Gore Bay Theatre puts on their productions, and we visit the businesses and shops in town. The businesses give our lacemakers discounts on things we purchase during the week. The Legion makes space available for our camp every year. The town and everyone is very welcoming to our group.”

“Another highlight every year is the lunch put on by the Lyons Memorial United Church,” said Ms. Pilon. “We all enjoy coming back to Gore Bay, seeing all our regulars and newcomers to the lace camp. Our group is showing no signs of slowing down and we will be back again next year.”
