Manitoulin OPP investigating structure fire: One person located deceased

TOWNSHIP OF BILLINGS, ON - On Thursday, September 3, 2026, at approximately 7:15 a.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a structure fire on Hawk Road in the Township of Billings. Police responded with assistance from the Township of Billings and Gore Bay Fire Departments and Emergency Medical Services.
One person was located deceased. The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed.
The Manitoulin OPP Crime Unit is continuing to investigate, with assistance from the Sudbury OPP Canine Unit, the OPP's Forensic Identification Services Unit, the Office of the Fire Marshal, the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario, and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and further information will be released as it becomes available.
