M’CHIGEENG—The expression ‘packed to the rafters’ can best be understood at a Manitoulin Secondary School graduation. Family, extended family, community family all came out in support of the MSS 2026 graduating class. 

Honoured guests, faculty members and the graduating class were piped into the hall on Thursday evening, June 11th by Iain McGale. Taylor Goodfellow and Georgia Roy began the ceremony with O Canada, in English, French and Anishinaabemowin, and Principal David Wiwchar gave the Land Acknowledgement. Mel Cheng and Andrew Argall were the evening’s MCs and introduced each of the speakers.

Anishinabek Nation Grand Council Chief and 91���˵��� Trustee, Linda Debassige was first to address the graduates. “Above all else, practice kindness,” she told them. “Kindness, integrity, honesty, will get you where you want to be. It will help you work with other people. Even though sometimes there are challenges, and there are times when we feel a little bit frustrated, it’s like those were always there. Practice kindness. It’s very simple. When we’re trying to do something, and we’re trying, we’re able to do a lot of great things together.”
