The NOHA has mandated that all minor hockey associations attend annual meetings to ensure representation and established new regulations to guarantee all eligible players can register for house league hockey.
NORTH BAY鈥擳he Northern Ontario Hockey Association (NOHA) has strengthened its governance and is protecting player access with two landmark changes made at its annual general meeting held recently.
鈥淭he NOHA is pleased to announce two significant changes approved by its membership at the 2026 annual general meeting, held in Sault Ste. Marie (in June). The changes establish a mandatory attendance standard for the annual meeting and create the NOHA鈥檚 first territory wide regulation governing house league registration. Together, they reflect the association鈥檚 commitment to stronger governance, greater consistency and expanded access to hockey for families across Northeastern Ontario,鈥 an NOHA release states.
鈥淓ach hockey association will now have to send at least one authorized elected/appointed delegate representative to the (NOHA) annual meeting,鈥 said Nick Lane, president of the Manitoulin Minor Hockey Association (MMHA) and the Western Manitoulin Minor Hockey Association (WMMHA), who attended this year鈥檚 NOHA AGM. 鈥淔or example, the Western Manitoulin Hockey Association, Manitowaning, Mindemoya, Little Current, Espanola will now have to be represented at the annual meeting. I don鈥檛 think we鈥檝e ever attended previously unless someone was receiving an award.鈥
