Person charged with weapons and impaired offences following traffic stop
A 21-year-old man faces impaired driving and weapons charges after an August 6 traffic stop in Sheguiandah revealed a loaded handgun and a failed alcohol test.

LITTLE CURRENT, ON - One person is facing impaired and weapons related charges after a traffic stop in Sheguiandah.
On Thursday, August 6, 2026, at approximately 7:30 a.m., an officer with the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on Highway 6 in Sheguiandah when they observed a vehicle fail to yield. A traffic stop was initiated, and while speaking with the driver, the officer detected an odour of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand was made, and the driver registered a "FAIL:. The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired operation.
As the investigation continued, police located and seized a loaded handgun from the vehicle.
As a result, Brayden WAINDUBENCE, 21-years-old from Sheguiandah, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Carrying concealed weapon
- Careless storage of firearm or ammunition - two counts
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
- Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon
- Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
- Unauthorized possession of weapon
- Operation while prohibited
- Driving while under suspension - two counts
- Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero
- Fail to yield from driveway
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on August 25, 2026.
