Turners of Little Current has launched a new merchandise line featuring a famous quote about the Manitoulin swing bridge by longtime columnist Bonnie Kogos and a photo by Terrence Hayes.
LITTLE CURRENT—For nearly 30 years New York writer Bonnie Kogos has been writing columns extolling the people and life and times on Manitoulin Island (more than a thousand columns and counting). A quote from one of Ms. Kogos’ columns so encapsulated the Manitoulin feeling that Island entrepreneur Debby Turner (Turners of Little Current) decided to create a line of Manitoulin merchandise that features a quote from the prolific author.
“Dave (Williamson, CAO of the Northeast Town) was able to get me on the consulting group of Stantec’s advisory committee regarding (plans to replace) the bridge,” said Ms. Turner, relating what originally prompted her to feature Ms. Kogos’ quote on the store’s Manitoulin Island merchandise. “While I was flipping through the committee agenda itinerary of the meeting that quote was there, and as soon as I saw it, I said to myself ‘I’ve got to put that on a T-shirt’.”
“Then I started looking for photos to go with it, and this photo was used in the program as well, so I found out who the photographer was (Terrence Hayes of Sudbury’s Slow Ride Photography) and got permission from him to use it.”
