MANITOWANING鈥擮ne of the most anticipated events of the Island summer season has to be the Southeast Lions Club Summerfest Smashup Derby and this year was no different. A huge crowd gathered to watch vans and automobiles clash in a modern day gladiatorial event.

The theme was 80s music and the floats were all well and thoroughly rocking.

Taking top honours this year was Tyler Leeson and car 11, in more ways than one. Mr. Leeson won the first heat to qualify for the finale topping David Laverre, Mike Deforge and Cody MacKenzie. Mr. Leeson also won the battle of the survivors to top it all off.

Tyler Leeson, centre, won not only the overall championship, but also the last man standing event following the smashup derby. He is presented with the trophy by Larry Lepcappelian and Phil LeBrocq

Colton Terveld in car 169 came in second overall. Mr. Terveld topped Josh Burnett, Cole Chisholm and Cord Hughson. Taylor Sprack took the third heat, topping Jason Millette, David Borton and Jadon Pearson.

Everyone was having an absolute blast during Southeast Manitoulin Lions Club鈥檚 Summerfest weekend, especially those in the parade.

David Borton won most artistic car.

Zack Burnett in number 22 won the van division.

This youngster was enjoying driving the tractor pulling the Agricultural Society float. Never too young to serve.
