The 12th annual Dewar Family Maple Syrup Auction raised over $1,000 for the Northern Cancer Foundation. Kevin Pattison won the first litre with a $650 bid, bringing the event's 12-year total to over $26,000.
PROVIDENCE BAY鈥擳he 12th annual Dewar Family Maple Syrup Auction was very successful again this year and will benefit the Northern Cancer Foundation.
鈥淚t was another huge success,鈥 stated Travis Dewar of Providence Bay. As has become tradition, the Dewar family made maple syrup and put the first delicious litre up for sale to benefit those battling cancer treatment in Northern Ontario.
The top bid this year was $650 for the first litre, and with all the donations that came in and are still coming in this will likely increase to over $1,000 that will benefit the Northern Cancer Foundation, said Mr. Dewar. The winning bid this year was, 鈥渁 little down from last year鈥檚 winning bid of over $2,700, but we expected it would be a little less this year, from those crazy numbers last year. And the weather has been a little difficult this year, including all the flooding people have had to endure on the Island and in other areas. People have had a lot going on.鈥
