BARRIE ISLAND鈥擶hile bird watching and bike riding are two passions of Russell Hanson, in talking to him for a few minutes you understand that being a participant in the 36th annual 鈥楾our de Barrie Island-In Search of Sandhill Cranes鈥 (August 1) is also very much about being part of a community.

Mr. Hanson was a year old when he took part in the first ride in 1990. 鈥淭his was a huge part of my childhood when I was young. My family would always stay at Carolyn鈥檚 (Lane-Rock who along with her sister originally organized the event) place.鈥

鈥淚 took part in this ride until I was at least 15 years old, until I started working and now, I try to get to as many of the annual rides as I can,鈥 said Mr. Hanson. 鈥淎fter my family, bird watching and bicycle riding are two of the most important things in my life.鈥
