Wiikwemkoong celebrated 106 post-secondary graduates at its 45th Annual Graduation Ceremony, hosted by the WBE and WLMS to honor the hard work, resilience, and community success of local learners.

WIIKWEMKOONG—Post-Secondary Student Support Services hosted its 45th Annual Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, July 30 at the Wiikwemkoong High School. The Wiikwemkoong Board of Education (WBE) and the Wii-ni n’guch-tood Labour Market Services (WLMS) came together for their annual celebration of graduates from various fields of study, achieving various post-secondary degrees, with all from Wiikwemkoong, 106 graduates in all. On hand to welcome the graduates were Maureen Peltier, Director of Education, Lawrence Enosse, Manager at WLMS, and Ogimaa Tim Ominika.

Joseph Wabegijig, as Master of Ceremonies, kept the program moving smoothly and surprisingly swiftly. “My responsibilities tonight are to keep the program moving, make everyone feel welcome, and pronounce every graduate’s name with the care it deserves,” he began, and he did all of that. “Tonight, we are recognizing more than certificates, diplomas, degrees, traits, qualifications and professional credentials. We are recognizing the commitment, sacrifices and perseverance behind each achievement. Every graduate here made the decision to begin, and more importantly, made the decision to keep going,” Mr. Wabegijig said.

Elder Josephine Pelletier was chosen to give the opening prayer in Anishinaabemowin, and Adam Kaboni performed the Honour Song and the Travelling Song.
