Perivale Gallery: Local artist Laurel Price presents ‘Wild and Whimsical,’ a collection of semi-abstract oil paintings inspired by Island landscapes. The exhibit runs through July 17 in Spring Bay.
SPRING BAY—Perivale Gallery lies nestled in the shading bush, a fitting location for an art gallery that focuses primarily on works by Northern Ontario artists. For the next few days, the gallery is hosting ‘Wild and Whimsical,’ featuring original oils by Island artist Laurel Price.
“I’m an oil painter, all the time,” said Ms. Price. “That’s where I started seven years ago, and that’s what’s got me hooked. I use a little bit of charcoal, but oil is usually what I work in.”
The bright collection of semi-abstract oils adorning the walls of the gallery feature images inspired by the land and waters of Manitoulin Island.
“Water and skies,” said Ms. Price. “A lot of sky; clouds really amaze me. They really intrigue me. In fact, sometimes when I’m driving, I must force my eyes to watch the road instead of being drawn up to the sky. Clouds are magical.”
Ms. Price’s work will be familiar to those attending the annual La Cloche Art Show and Sale earlier in July. In fact, one of her works won first place in oils at the 2022 La Cloche Art Show.
‘WILD & WHIMSICAL,’ opened on July 11 and continues to Friday, July 17 at the Perivale Gallery, 1320 Perivale Road East, Spring Bay. Purchases or inquiries can be made by calling 705-210-0290.
