SANDFIELD鈥擶ith tenders for bids out for companies to bid on the construction of a new building for raising walleye at the Blue Jay Creek Fish Culture Station in Sandfield, the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) is hopeful that construction of the new building will begin before the end of the current year.

鈥淐urrently, the tenders are out for construction of the building,鈥 stated Dale Jordison, manager of the Blue Jay Creek Fish Culture Station. 鈥淭he tenders will be in before the end of the month, so we should be hearing soon on this. Then it will take a period of time for a decision to be made on the accepted bid.鈥

As was reported in the December 23, 2024 edition of The Manitoulin Expositor, the Ontario government invested over $75 million to update Ontario鈥檚 fish hatchery program to provide better fishing opportunities across the province.
