NASHVILLE—Wiikwemkoong singer/songwriter Crystal Shawanda has an upcoming album and we have a teaser, ‘Come onto Me.’

“This is one of the covers we included on my upcoming album, and it’s one of my favorite songs by the Mavericks,” she said. “So this takes us back to my beginnings in Nashville when we used to play for tips down on Broadway at a club called Tootsies. We were misfits, playing old country songs (nothing after 1975), blues music and old rock and roll! They didn’t know what to do with us, so they stuck us in the back room upstairs.”

“This was before the back room was a jumping place to play, back then it was where artists were sent to give up,” she said. “We were the outcasts, but we started to build a buzz and we used to have all kinds of songwriters, artists, publishers and producers come down to watch us.”
