🚶Memorial Walk

It has been 20 years since the death of Anthony Mandamin on September 16, 2006. There is a $50,000 reward for information that leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this death and help bring answers to Anthony’s family and community. There is a memorial walk taking place on in his memory, which starts at 9 am at Pat’s Café in Wiikwemkoong. For more information, food or monetary donations call Pat at 1-989-824-0353.

💁Masonic Lodge Info and Open House

The Masonic Lodge on the Manitoulin-Doric Lodge 455 is approaching 125 years on the Island. An information and open house will take place on on 22 Campbell Street, in Little Current. Visitors will be taken on a tour of the lodge, learn about our tenets and enjoy light refreshments. Everyone is welcome and admission is free. 🏃Terry Fox Run

This year marks the 46th annual Terry Fox Run. Locally, a Terry Fox Run will be taking place on starting at Low Island Municipal Park, 66 Water Street West, Little Current. Registration is set for 12:45 pm. For more information on Page 10 of this week’s edition of the Expositor.

Discover original artwork from talented artists across Northern Ontario. The Northern Ontario Art Association annual art show will feature local art, talented artists and unique creations at the Gore Bay Harbour Centre (40 Water Street) between 10 am to 4 pm from September 15 to 26. Everyone is welcome.

✍️What we're working on

• Another step has been taken toward the construction of the new Swing Bridge in Little Current, with the announcement of the construction manager for the project. 
• Representatives of Belanger Salach Architecture and St. Joseph’s Health Centre provided an update of the construction of the new 64-bed St. Joseph’s Lodge Long-Term Care Home in Gore Bay; housing being provided for employees and how the community and can get involved in the project. 
• It’s municipal election time! The Expositor is interviewing the mayoral candidates in each municipality.

Let the sunshine in! According to Environment Canada, Friday be blessed with sunny skies, with a daytime high of 17°C with temperatures dropping to a low of 7°C overnight under partly cloudy skies.

Saturday will see a mix of sun and cloud and a daytime high of 19°C. Temperatures drop to 10°C overnight accompanied by cloudy periods.

🤔In case you missed it

• New federal climate reports are charting a warmer, wetter and less predictable future. Those changes are now considered to be irreversible. The nation is now not expected to meet 2030 targets until 2050.
• The province has invested $5.1 million to determine if the former Espanola paper mill can be converted into a biomass facility. The mill shut down put 400 workers on the unemployment line and its spinoff impacts affected an estimated further 2,000.
• Tehkummah’s Christine McNaughton has been battling a debilitating condition since suffering a stroke in 2024. She is now in need of a kidney transplant. Readers are encouraged to consider donating one to her. Check with your doctor to determine if you qualify.
