Social worker Jill Macdonald’s new children’s book, Sophie Takes a Trip, uses cognitive behavioral therapy concepts to help kids aged 4–8 understand, normalize, and manage feelings of anxiety.
GORE BAY—A new book written by a registered social worker in Toronto, who regularly visits Manitoulin and has family here, is aimed to help children understand and normalize anxiety so as not to let it control their lives.
Sometimes life is scary, and all people, including children, can suffer from anxiety and fears, especially if they are facing a new adventure in their life.
And so the book “The Tales of Sophie Shenanigans: Sophie Takes a Trip,” was written by long-time visitor to Manitoulin Island Jill Macdonald.
“I am a social worker in Etobicoke, who works with individual and family counselling,” said Ms. McDonald. “The book is locally based on my dog Sophie, who was adopted by my family with the assistance of the Kerry Blue Terrier Club of Canada and flew from Vancouver Island, British Columbia, to her forever home with our family.”
