The inaugural Manitoulin Fibre Arts Festival at Gore Bay鈥檚 Studio 6 showcases 21 local textile artists. Running until July 19, the volunteer-led event features workshops, demonstrations, and exhibits.
GORE BAY鈥擳he first ever Manitoulin Fibre Arts Festival launched this past weekend.
鈥淭his will be the first fibre arts festival held on Manitoulin Island,鈥 stated Helen Siksek, who along with Sharon Alkenbrack is hosting the exhibition in the Studio 6 gallery on the second floor of the Gore Bay Harbour Centre.
The idea was brought forward at a winter meeting of the Manitoulin Island Artists Collective, a group of Island artists who do things for fun with no grants or sponsors, said Ms. Siksek. 鈥淭he idea came from Sharon Alkenbrack who suggested the festival. She was aware that there are several textile artists on the island and their work doesn鈥檛 frequently get showcased in traditional galleries or exhibitions.鈥
