Manitoulin Pride celebrated a vibrant week of community events, featuring traditional ceremonies, workshops like Drag 101 with Baby Bel Bel and Karamilk, and joyful celebrations across the Island.
MANITOULIN—Manitoulin Pride events took place this past week and weekend, and in every case the vibe in the room/park was positively electric—although the beading, archery and Drag 101 events did feature some steely-eyed concentration from participants and presenters.
From the sunrise ceremony at Kenjgewin Teg to the raising of the Pride Flag on the Port of Little Current waterfront that included a ceremonial smudging and prayer by Elder Genevieve Tahgaiwenene from Whitefish River 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ (ably assisted by her helper Tanya Jacko) to the final parade and barbecue at the Little Current United Church every event was both well-attended (if not at capacity like the Drag 101 workshop) and humming with unmistakably good vibrations.
Elder Tahgaiwenene noted the challenges being presented by the incivility and anger that seems prevalent these days and gave thanks to the Creator.
