Recent incidents of geese being killed on Highway 551 near Mindemoya have prompted concerns from local commuter Maggie Leclair regarding speeding, driver inattention, and wildlife safety.
MINDEMOYA—A Kagawong resident who drives every day to work in Mindemoya is angered and perplexed as to why anyone would not be able to see geese, adults and their young, walking across or on the side of Highway 551 just outside of Mindemoya on a straight stretch of road. She raised these concerns due to the number of geese that have been killed there over the past month or so.
“For the last month or so, I’ve seen something I’ve never seen before,” said Maggie Leclair, who drives from Kagawong every morning and evening on her way to and from her job in Mindemoya. “There have been a couple of incidents where I came across dead geese all over the road. I’ve also seen this same type of thing over the years with people hitting turtles.”
“In the first incident I came up on going to work there was an entire family, a mom and dad and about 30 goslings in total that had been hit and were dead,” Ms. Leclair told The Expositor.
