The mystery fish die-off on Lake Kagawong has largely subsided. While one resident reports minnows in their well, officials suggest the event may be natural and advise against public panic.
LAKE KAGAWONG鈥擶hile there is still one property owner on Lake Kagawong who says he has dead minnows washing up in his well on Lake Kagawong, the die-off of many large adult bass has dissipated and its cause remains a mystery.
鈥淚t is still a mystery, and it might remain one,鈥 stated Ian Anderson, a Billings township councillor and former conservation officer with the Ministry of Natural Resources, last Wednesday. 鈥淚t will be interesting to see if the fish die-off continues, but I know it has been at least a week since I have heard of anyone seeing dead fish on their shorelines or beaches.鈥
Brian Parker, a resident on Lake Kagawong told The Expositor last Wednesday, 鈥渨e have hundreds of minnows in our well here. They are all small minnows. I have seen this before but never to this extent.鈥
