LITTLE CURRENT—One of the great things about living on an Island is the opportunity to check out and visit so many different types of vessels. So, it is with the Port of Little Current where boating organizations increasingly enjoy coming in the summer. The Great Lakes Tugboat Rendezvous came to the Island last year and normally moves around to different locations each year, but the flotilla is planning to return again to the Port of Little Current again this year.

“I’m one of the guys who organized the Great Lakes Tugboat Rendezvous there,” said co-organizer Ryan Carson. “Right now, we have 18 confirmed and still some others yet to be determined. So, it should be a good turnout.”

While there are not any “official” tours planned, Mr. Carson noted that the owners tend to be gregarious. “You know, if you get to talking to one of the captains, they might invite you on to have a look around on the boat sort of thing.

The tugboat cavalcade is expected to arrive Friday, August 14 and Saturday August 15.

The Port of Little Current is the final endpoint of the Tugboat Rendezvous before they disperse, with a wide range of tugs chugging their way up Georgian Bay.

Tugboats are a great hit with folks of all ages.
