Fatal single-vehicle collision closes Hwy 542 in Central Manitoulin
A 51-year-old Port Elgin man died in a single-vehicle pickup truck collision on Highway 542 in Central Manitoulin last Sunday. The OPP investigation is ongoing.

LITTLE CURRENT—One person has been pronounced deceased following a single vehicle collision.
On Sunday, July 11 at approximately 6:45 pm, officers with the Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin Police Service (UCCM) were dispatched to a single-vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and one occupant on Highway 542 in the municipality of Central Manitoulin.
A 51-year-old male from Port Elgin was pronounced deceased.
Highway 542 between Lakeshore Road and Monument Road in Central Manitoulin was still closed as of the Expositor press deadline on Monday. The police investigation remains ongoing with assistance from the OPP technical collision investigators and reconstructionist.
