MINDEMOYA—A fundraiser initiated by Leanne Lewis of The Royal Lepage Shelter Foundation to benefit the Manitoulin Women’s Shelter after the facility, including the Manitoulin Food Bank, was ravaged by flood waters has surpassed its original goal of $5,000. Funds are being raised to support Manitoulin Haven House which had to close temporarily due to flooding last week.

“We are very grateful to Leanne Lewis for holding this fundraiser,” said Colleen Hill, executive director of Manitoulin Family Resources last week. “We are very grateful for how supportive everyone is.”

“I was up to the shelter yesterday (Tuesday); there were women leaving the shelter with water up to their knees in the parking lot,” said Ms. Lewis. “I felt so helpless and I thought I had to do something to help these women in some way. These women have already been put through so much.”
