LITTLE CURRENT—The Little Current and District Fish and Game Club (LCDFGC) has cancelled its always popular visit by elementary students across Manitoulin to see the walleye run on Bass Creek due to the flooding conditions that hit the Manitoulin area last week.

“Unfortunately, 120 students from seven elementary schools (on Manitoulin) are going to miss out on the tour this year, with the event being cancelled,” stated Terry Stewart, a member of the fish and game club board of directors on Monday.

Mr. Stewart explained that the club directors met on Monday and made the decision to cancel the event this year. “I’ve been to Bass Creek the past few days and the water levels are high, and Bass Lake is full of ice (and will melt causing the water levels to increase further). It would be a safety risk to have all the kids moving around the area, not to mention being a risk to teachers, volunteers and club members with the high lake levels.”
