Manitoulin OPP officers recently rescued a young moose that was trapped in a wire fence near the Little Current Swing Bridge, successfully freeing the animal without injury.
LITTLE CURRENT鈥擳wo officers from the Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were in the right place at the right time when they came across a young moose in need of help recently.
鈥淥n Saturday, May 9, officers with the Manitoulin OPP were patrolling Highway 6 north of the Little Current Swing Bridge and spotted a moose caught in a wire fence along the roadway. The moose was lying on the ground and unable to free itself,鈥 reported OPP Provincial Constable Berkley Parisien in a release.
鈥淯sing the tools they had on hand, and a bit of teamwork, the officers carefully cut the fence around the moose legs and were able to free the moose without injury. After a brief moment to recover, the young moose stood up and walked away,鈥 said Constable Parisien. She added, 鈥淪ometimes policing brings unexpected challenges, and in some cases, that occasionally includes lending a hand to a moose in need.鈥
