Steven Debassige organized a Sunrise Ceremony and awareness walk in M鈥機higeeng for the Moose Hide Campaign, honoring missing and murdered Indigenous women and engaging men to help end violence.
M鈥機HIGEENG鈥擱ed Dress Day was observed on May 5 and across Turtle Island communities came together to observe a National Day of Awareness in Canada dedicated to honouring the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirited-plus.
Steven Debassige, a member of M鈥機higeeng 91成人导航, was dismayed when he discovered that there did not seem to be much going on in his home community connected to the event.
鈥淲iikwemkoong is doing a lot, he said, 鈥渂ut there did not seem to be anything in our own community.鈥 He noted that M鈥機higeeng is still reeling from the disappearance of Juanita Migwans and what happened to Grace Ranger in Sudbury.
