CHIPPEWAS OF THE THAMES—It’s been 42 years since a fastball championship trophy has come back to Aundeck Omni Kaningl and it remains a family tradition.

Back in 1982, the team formerly known as the women’s team of Sucker Creek won the All-Ontario Native Fastpitch title when there was only one men’s and women’s division. This women’s team played in the Island league and won the regionals, which was the qualifier for the All-Ontario’s. Ingrid Madahbee was one of the original champs back in 1982.

A few years after that Ken (Duke) Madahbee, Ingrid’s husband, was picked up by Garden River as their pitcher. They won the championship that year, with Ken as their pitcher and the young Darren Zack playing in left field. It was after that win that Darren Zack started to learn how to pitch and get tips and techniques from Ken (Duke). As many know, Darren Zack turned out to be an amazing pitcher who won many accolades throughout his pitching career.
