LITTLE CURRENT—The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 177 Hall was packed with delegates wearing the distinctive blue and grey for the annual District H convention. This marks a special year for the Legion as it is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding in 1926 as an amalgamation of several veteran’s organizations into the unified national organization we know today.
“We’re very proud of our Legion branch here,” said Northeast Town Mayor Al MacNevin in welcoming the delegates to his community. “They work collaboratively with us on many things. The support that the legion across this country gives to veterans and the support and fundraising opportunities for communities they provide is not exceeded by any other volunteer group that I know. It’s also a very great honour for me to be here at their 100th anniversary,” he said. “I hope you have a great conference.”
“I think in this day and age, we’re still out to render service to our veterans who are in need,” said convention chair Andre Paquette. “That is our big mandate and always has been.”
