QUINTE鈥擝rodie Shawanda, only 16 years old, is already playing football at a level many players his age are still aiming for. The 5鈥 10鈥 260-pound offensive lineman, whose family is originally from Wiikwemkoong has been invited to join the Quinte Riptides (formerly known as the Skyhawks) in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL). Although he is mainly a guard and centre, he has also played at tackle from time to time, displaying his versatility, which likely contributed to making Brodie one of the youngest players ever to be recruited by the team.

The CJFL is for young men between the ages of 17 and 22. Currently, the national league brings together teams from across Canada for the Canadian Bowl and has long provided an important opportunity for players who want to continue their football careers after finishing high school. The CJFL places a strong focus on competitive football, discipline, perseverance, cooperation and community involvement. For many players, it can serve as a route to university football and on to a career in the Canadian Football League.
