The Little Current Lions Club is hosting its 57th annual ‘Fiesta-Haw’ Haweater Weekend celebrations this weekend, . The weekend is packed with all kinds of activities and events for every member of the family. Check out our story and for the event.

🍗 Beef Barbecue 🍗

The annual Beef Barbecue will take place at the Meldrum Bay Community Hall . During the day there will be a yard sale, cornhole tournament and kids’ games. Tickets, which are being sold in advance, are $35 for adults, $10 for children six to12, with those under six free. For information call 705-210-9014.

🎨 Heartfelt Heritage: Manitoulin Roots 🎨

is excited to welcome “Heartfelt Heritage – Manitoulin Roots,” an art exhibition by Canadian artist Christie (Best) Pearson Anderson of Christies Art at the Gore Bay Museum, 12 Dawson St, Gore Bay. Come enjoy a beautiful collection of paintings and drawings inspired by Manitoulin roots and heritage. The exhibition will continue throughout the summer until August 29.

The Tehkummah Township Hall was packed on Wednesday as Mayor John Deforge met with local residents to outline the possibility of greatly reduced office hours and the possible closure of the municipal office and concerns with actions by council and the interim clerk on several issues.

The first player selected in the draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League received a special beadwork medallion created by a Manitoulin Island resident.

Wiikwemkoong Child and Family Services held a well-attended grand opening of their new (albeit temporary offices) at 56 Willow Street. The new facility will house offices up to 86 staff until the new permanent building is completed.

According to Environment Canada, it’s looking to be a soggy August long weekend. Friday will see a daytime high of 26°C with a 40 percent chance of showers (and possible lightening). Temperatures will drop to a low of 17°C overnight with the chance of showers rising to 60 percent.

Saturday’s will have a 30 percent chance of showers with a daytime high of 22°C, with temperatures dropping to 17°C overnight and the chance of showers rising to 40 percent.

Sunday’s daytime high of 23°C will be accompanied a mix of sun and cloud (yay, fireworks!). Temperatures will drop to a low of 13°C under clear skies.

For the holiday Monday it will be a balmy 26°C and all sun all the time.

🤔 In case you missed it 🤔

Bridal Veil Falls has reopened to the public following closure due to damage from the spring flood event. Someone almost drowned the day the falls reopened. The trails, however, will remain closed for some time as the municipality works to repair the extensive damage from the 100-year event.

Grand Council Chief of the Anishinabek Nation Linda Debassige is calling on senior officials at the Ministry of Natural Resources to resign following the scrambled evacuation of residents across Northeastern Ontario and communities left in ashes.

Assiginack has purchased the old OPP building in Manitowaning to utilize as a new fire hall. While the decision at the council table was questioned by the mayor and a council member during debate, the ultimate motion to make the purchase was passed.
